Impact of Prompts as Corrective Feedback Strategy on Teaching /θ/ and /ð/ among Iranian Intermediate EFL Learners

This study investigated the effects of prompts as corrective feedback strategy on teaching /θ/ and /ð/ sounds to Iranian EFL learners. To achieve this objective, after 30 students studying English at a language institute took a placement test, the intermediate-level students were selected based on their scores on this test. They were randomly assigned to one experimental group and one control g...

Friction Sounds for Sensorial Substitution

This paper explores the use of a physics-based sound model of continuous contact for auditory display in interactive settings. An audio-visual interactive display is developed in which the sound model is controlled by the user’s gestures. The display is used to investigate to what extent audition can substitute for haptic feedback in conveying perception of inertial properties of a manipulated ...

A Wireless Electronic Esophageal Stethoscope for Continuous Monitoring of Cardiovascular and Respiratory Systems during Anaesthesia

Background: The basic requirements for monitoring anesthetized patients during surgery are assessing cardiac and respiratory function. Esophageal stethoscopes have been developed for this purpose, but these devices may not provide clear heart and lung sound due to existence of various noises in operating rooms. In addition, the stethoscope is not applicable for continues monitoring, and it is u...

Interactive Granular Synthesis of Haptic Contact Sounds

The goal of this project is to automatically synthesise contact sounds that can be easily added to existing and future haptic applications without the need for extensive sound design, sampling or programming. Contact sounds are caused by interactions with objects such as scraping a surface. This continuous information about the surface is much richer than simply triggering a sound sample. In th...
